Hannah Poon

Mental Health Accredited Social Worker

Hannah (She/Her) is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with a Bachelor in Social Work, Master in Urban Studies: Community Arts, and a PhD in Society and Culture.

Hannah was born in Canada and moved to Tasmania some years ago to pursue her PhD at UTAS which she completed in 2021. She has previously worked in social work positions in Canada, United States, and Australia working with people experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse, migration, unemployment, ageing, early childhood, and disabilities.

For the last four years, Hannah has been working in the clinical space, primarily in the areas of substance misuse and mental health. As a mental health clinician, Hannah draws from a variety of evidence-based psychological interventions such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), MI (motivational interviewing), and Mindfulness. She has a keen interest in Arts-based and Nature-based therapeutic approaches and is always working to grow her skillset and practice approaches.

In her free time Hannah enjoys anything related to being outside and movement. Some of her favorite activities include rock climbing, snowboarding, and dance. She finds movement, being in nature, travelling, cooking and eating good food, being creative and spending time with family and friends her (not-so) secret recipe to feeling energised and whole.

Hannah is available for face-to-face sessions in Hobart, or via Telehealth Australia-wide.
