Our Story

The  Crawley Clinic was first established by Dr Tess Crawley (clinical and forensic psychologist) in Hobart in 2000. With a strong reputation as a practising clinician and trainer of psychologists, Tess quickly built a team to meet demand. After the birth of her two children, Tess started looking beyond Hobart for ways to broaden the clinic's services. In 2014, Triabunna on the east coast of Tasmania became the first of many outreach clinics, soon followed by Swansea, Bicheno, St Helens and eventually Launceston in 2016. Our commitment to rural mental health continues, with staff still providing services in Launceston, Tasmania's southern east coast, and elsewhere via telehealth.

During the Covid years, Tess was based in Melbourne, establishing two further mental health initiatives between lockdowns: The Crawley Clinic's Albert Park rooms and Crawley House, a serviced office setting supporting other mental health professionals. She returned to Hobart in 2023 to focus on her Tasmanian interests.

The Crawley Clinic is committed to workforce development, and through our work as a teaching clinic we have trained around 80 psychology and social work students and interns so far. In 2021, The Crawley Clinic was named a Finalist for Team Culture Excellence at the Australian Allied Health Awards.

In her capacity as a private practice business coach, Tess has helped over 1,000 private practice owners Australia-wide to support their own teams and clients, and avoid the burnout so common to small business owners. She was named a Finalist for Psychologist of the Year in 2019 and 2024, and won the 2024 Allied Health Leadership & Management Award. She is a regular conference speaker, workshop facilitator, and consultant to organisations large and small. Tess also manages to find time to write young adult and crime fiction.

The Crawley Clinic has proudly served the Tasmanian community for over 20 years, and we look forward to a long future supporting our clients, no matter where they are based.
