Dr Tess Crawley

Dr Tess Crawley (she/her) is an Australian Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, business coach, author and founder of The Crawley Clinic, one of Tasmania’s longest-established multidisciplinary private psychology practices.

A proud eighth-generation Tasmanian, Tess was born in Launceston and studied psychology at the University of Tasmania, where she completed a PhD in Clinical Psychology before lecturing in psychology. She established The Crawley Clinic in Hobart in 2000, growing the practice from a solo psychology office into a multidisciplinary team providing psychological services across Tasmania and, more recently, Melbourne and Australia-wide via Telehealth.

Over more than two decades, Tess has built a reputation for delivering high-quality psychological care while developing sustainable systems for private practice. Under her leadership, The Crawley Clinic expanded into rural Tasmania, establishing outreach services in communities including Triabunna, Swansea, Bicheno, St Helens and Launceston, reflecting her longstanding commitment to improving access to mental health care outside metropolitan centres.

Alongside her clinical work, Tess has become one of Australia’s recognised business coaches for private practice owners. She has worked with more than 1,000 psychologists, allied health professionals and private practice owners across Australia, helping them build financially sustainable practices, develop effective teams, strengthen leadership skills and reduce practitioner burnout. Her philosophy is simple: healthier businesses create healthier clinicians, which ultimately leads to better outcomes for clients.

The Crawley Clinic has also developed a strong reputation for workforce development. As a teaching clinic, it has provided placements, supervision and training for around 80 psychology and social work students and interns, supporting the next generation of mental health professionals.

Tess is a regular conference speaker, workshop facilitator and consultant to organisations across Australia. She was a Finalist for Psychologist of the Year in both 2019 and 2024, and received the 2024 Allied Health Leadership & Management Award in recognition of her contribution to leadership within allied health.

Today, Tess maintains a small clinical caseload while focusing much of her time on mentoring practice owners, supporting The Crawley Clinic team, writing, speaking and developing innovative approaches to sustainable private practice. She is also a published author and is currently writing both young adult and crime fiction.

Outside of work, Tess enjoys travelling with her family and supporting the Tasmanian arts community, with works by local artists featured throughout The Crawley Clinic’s consulting rooms.
